You will not necessarily get a smart meter. This depends on your new energy provider but you can request one by contacting your supplier directly and requesting they fit. Should they be able to provide in your area and nothing in your property means the meter won’t work, they are likely to grant your request and install.
It costs around £100 typically to install but the cost is incurred by your supplier. You should not have to pay any extra to have a smart meter fitted.
